Football Spread Betting Markets Explained

Below we describe the more common football spread betting markets. You will find that each spread betting firm will introduce additional markets, sometimes unique to them, especially for special sporting events.

Rules for each market may vary between spread betting firms, especially for markets where points are allocated for specific events, so always ensure you fully understand the rules of a market before placing a bet.

Supremacy

This is a market predicting a team's dominance over their opposition. The spread represents how many more goals any given team will score against their opponents.

Total Goals

This market is based on the total number of goals scored in any given match by both teams.

Goal Scorers Shirt Numbers

The aggregate number of shirt numbers for all the goal scorers (both sides) in a match.

Total Bookings

How many cards will the referee show during a match?

A scoring system is calculated by allocating points for each type of card shown. The points allocated may vay from one spread bet firm to another.

e.g.

10 points for a yellow card (maximum one per player)
25 points for a red card

If a player receives a yellow card and then a second yellow card i.e. red card then he is awarded 10 + 25 = 35 points.

Total Corners

This market is based on the total number of corners accumulated by both sides in a game.

Multi Corners

This is the number of corners in the first half multiplied by the number of corners in the second.

Time of 1st Goal

How many minutes will elapse before one team scores.

The maximum make-up is 90 minutes (injury time does not count).

Win Index

The spread represents the outcome of the game. i.e. win, lose or a draw?

A scoring system is calculated by allocating points for each result. The points allocated may vay from one spread bet firm to another.

e.g.

25 points if a team wins
10 points for each team if they draw
0 points if a team loses

Total Goal Minutes

The spread represents the total aggregate time of all goals scored in the game. For example, goals scored in the 77th and 83rd minute would result in a make up of 160 total goal minutes.

This is a very volatile sports market and care should be taken when placing bets.

Team Performance

The spread represents a "Team Performance" for both teams in a live televised match. The teams are awarded various performance points based upon particular events. The points allocated may vay from one spread bet firm to another.

e.g.

Win =25pts
Draw =10pts
Goal = 15pts
Clean Sheet = 10pts
Woodwork = 10pts (must rebound into play).
Corner = 3pts
Yellow Card = - 5pts
Red Card = -15pts

Player Performance

The spread represents a "Player Performance", where selected players are awarded various performance points based upon particular events. The points allocated may vay from one spread bet firm to another.

e.g.

Goal scored = +25pts

Goal assist = +10pts
(The final touch before a goal is scored. If it hits an opposition player or woodwork first, no assist is given.)

Shot on target = +5pts
(Does not include woodwork. Includes all attempts on target that require the goalkeeper to make a save, or results in a defensive block within the 6-yard box. If a save or block is made from a shot that is going wide, this is not a shot on target.)

Forcing a corner = +3pts
(The last attacking player to touch the ball before the corner is conceded by the defending team. If the ball hits two opposition players before going out of play, no forced corner is given.)

Free kicks won = +3pts
(Including penalties)

Passing to own player in opposition half = +2pts
(A successful pass where the passer gets the ball to his own player in the opposition half. The pass can originate from anywhere on the field. A pass is deemed successful if a player from the same team gets any form of contact on the ball. There is no element of control required from the receiving player. The pass must be seen on camera. In the event of a match being covered by more than one station, Sporting Index will nominate which coverage will apply before kick-off.)

Free kick conceded = -3pts
(Including penalties, handballs and off-sides)

Yellow card = -10pts

Red card = -25pts
(There is a maximum of 35 points per player. In the event of a second yellow card being awarded, we retain the first yellow (-10) and then add the red (-25).)We will normally offer Player Performances on three or four players from each team.
