Rugby Spread Betting Markets Explained

Below we describe the more common rugby spread betting markets. You will find that each spread betting firm will introduce additional markets, sometimes unique to them, especially for special sporting events.

Tournament/Championship Index

The spread represents how the individual teams will perform in a major Rugby event. Points are awarded according to the how the team performs. The points allocated may vary from one spread bet firm to another.

e.g. for the Six Nations Championship

1st = 60 points
2nd = 40 points
3rd = 20 points
4th = 10 points
5th = 0 points
6th = 0 points

Seasonal Points

The number of points a team will win within their league during the course of a season.

Supremacy

The number of points one team will beat the other by in a specified game.

The favourite is always listed first, e.g. 'England 9-12' represents England are expected to win by 9 to 12 points.

Total Points

The total number of points that a team will score during a single rugby match.

Shirt Numbers

The aggregate number of the tryscorers shirt numbers in a match. Trys scored by players of either team are included.

Time of the First Try

The number of minutes that will elapse before the first try is scored. Markets are also available for the time of the first try scored by a specified team.

If there are no tries in the match then the make is 80 (i.e. the total number of minutes).

Team Performance

The spread represents how the team will perform during a match. The points allocated may vary from one spread bet firm to another.

Points are awarded for winning, drawing, scoring tries and goal kicks. Points are deducted for missed kicks, bookings and dismissals.
